A KEY DOCUMENTARY IN THE DEMOCRATISATION OF MOROCCAN SKATEBOARD ATHLETES AND SKATEBOARDING IN NORTH AFRICA

→ An inspiring story, starring one of the best well known skater in the world, Nassim Lachhab, who is the first Moroccan and African pro-skateboarder ever.

→ Through the prism of skateboarding the film showcases the problematics of north african youth : lack of perspectives, financial problems, and the difficulty of reaching and settling in Europe or in the US.

→ An immersive documentary, about a generation of Moroccan skateboarders, dreaming of coming to Europe in the hope of turning pro. A story of solidarity, perseverance and a quest for freedom.

PRODUCTION STATEMENT

Between 2009 and 2011, I filmed and edited Nassim Lachhab’s very first skateboarding videos in Rabat, Morocco. In 2020, after having lived in France and Spain, Nassim became the first Moroccan and African professional skater in history.

Ever since then, I kept wondering: What had it been like for Nassim to rise to the forefront of the international skate scene, all the while wrestling with the challenges of immigration? In what way did his groundbreaking trajectory resonate with the current state of Morocco's skate scene?

SYNOPSIS

Nassim Lachhab is the world's first Moroccan and African professional skateboarder. Kamal Ourahou, his very first filmer, recounts how his rise parallels his emigrant journey from Morocco to Europe, and explores its resonance with current issues on the Moroccan skate scene.
