PRODUCTION STATEMENT

The biggest challenge in producing ASCHE was to make a full-length feature film that works as a single film but also as the conclusion to the WE WERE trilogy. We wanted to answer questions from fans but also be just as interesting for new viewers. Not an easy challenge when resources and time are limited.

The result was a film that consciously dared to do things differently. Nevertheless, it tells an exciting hero's journey as we know it from many great popcorn films. ASHES is about finding the truth. The well hidden truth in a cold case and the inner truth of a young police commissioner, who is running away from her old life.

An intelligent and clever story that challenges the viewer to see through the obvious. ASHES is suspenseful mix of thriller, science fiction and mystery with a stunning cast and the amazing lead actress Jessica Stautz.

SYNOPSIS

Shortly before Christmas, a strange piece of evidence and an ancient book drive the young detective Carolin Arends to reopen the mysterious murder case of Alexander Michalski. She doesn't yet know that her greatest enemy is time itself and that she is already in the perpetrator's sights.

DIRECTOR

Tobias Obentheuer is a German director and stage director. Ashes is his first feature film. In 2021 and 2022, he directed two medium-length films, WE WERE-The Time That Remains and WE WERE-Darkness. He is also producer of Ashes.
