PRODUCTION STATEMENT

Housing is a human right, and almost no subject concerns us personally as directly and comprehensively than housing.

It's hard to find something worth paying for in Vienna's real estate market. It's even more complicated for people working in the cultural and artistic fields, which are quite precarious. This real estate situation is a reflection of our neoliberal times. A persistent gold rush, leading to an ever-expanding real estate bubble.

We need to take a stand on issues that concern us directly. But we also want to tackle these issues in a light-hearted and enjoyable way.
So move in, for a temporary two-hour sublet, in a dark, mysterious, warm and fun cinematic collocation with our "Landlady".

SYNOPSIS

Johanna's greatest wish is to have a place to live and feel good. She's already found it, but her landlady, Mrs. Schrankinger, and Dr. Winter (a lawyer) are literally making Johanna's life a hell. Can Johanna turn things around? Living in a beautiful, affordable home has become an unattainable dream for many. But Johanna has one great strength: she's a dreamer.

DIRECTOR

Sebastian Brauneis is a Austrian director and stage director. In 2018 he directed his first feature film, Zauberer, presented at the Max Ophüls Prize in Saarbrücken. In 2019 he directed his first experimental theater work Inside Lieutenant Gustl (in virtual reality.) In 2020 and 2021 he presented two other features films, a melancholy comedy and a melodrama. His experience as a theater director has enabled him to create some very singular cinema works, completely unconventional that, at the same time, deal with rather topical and urgent issues.
