PRODUCTION STATEMENT

A group of ocean conservationists and world-renowned free divers headed to a little known corner of the world to explore one of the last truly wild and preserved places on earth, the Revillagigedo Archipelago. Led by Jean-Jacques Mayol, son of the legendary free diver featured in The Big Blue, the team threw themselves into the unpredictable wild, battling strong currents and challenging filming conditions. The project was supported by Cressi dive gear, the Mexican government, PADI, Divers Alert Network (DAN), and the crew and divers, who all participated in the film voluntarily. The week and a half journey began aboard a Mexican Navy airplane. The 11-person team was flown to the Navy base on Socorro Island to board the vessel that became their workplace and home throughout filming. Aboard it, they traveled from Socorro to San Benedicto before going all the way to La Paz to meet up with local children and take them on their first snorkel with whale sharks. Surrounded by tens of sharks, curious dolphins, giant friendly manta rays, and schools of huge tuna, the team aimed to highlight the beauty that happens when life is allowed to flourish far from humankind and the importance of protecting it.
