PRODUCTION STATEMENT
The Art of Falling is not about sport, nor is it just about judo. The ancient martial art, a symbol of discipline and self-challenge, is used as a metaphor.
Through this emotional coming-of-age story, Orlin Milchev want to share the message that in real life, just like in judo, knowing how to fall is important. This knowledge can help young people face and overcome difficulties and achieve personal victories.
SYNOPSIS
Borislava refuses to be harassed by the boys. Her artistic, but unstable mother does not give her the support she needs. Her caring grandfather enrolls her in a judo school. There, she realizes that before beating others, one must win the battles within oneself.

DIRECTOR
Orlin Milchev graduated from the Bulgarian National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in 2016. In 2017, he studied in the class of Béla Tarr. The Art of Falling is his fiction debut. In 2024 his new short movie Chocolate won the Sofia FF “best short award”.
